How to Clean Dosa Tawa
Tip: For cleaning burned food from Non Stick Tawa, wet the burn, moist with salt and then leave for 10 minutes.
Use weak acids to clean kitchen utensils
1. Let the pan cool down
Trying to clean a hot pan can result in burned fingers.
2. Remove any dirt or grease residue
Clean and dry the utensils and pans to make sure they are free of oil or dirt. Use warm water and dish soap to remove any grease residue.
3. Scrape off any leftover food or burnt remains
Try this out with a dish brush first. If this doesn’t remove it, you can boil some water at the bottom of the pan and then use a wooden spoon to scrape the surface until the aluminium is exposed again.
4. Mix an acid solution
For every quarter of a litre you need, two tablespoons of tartar, white vinegar, or lemon juice should be added.
The acid solution reduces discolouration that occurs due to oxidation. Cutlery can also be rubbed with acidic fruits or vegetables such as apples or rhubarb. Alternatively, you can add apple peel to the water instead of vinegar.
If you want, you can use a gentle aluminium cookware cleaner instead of the water boiling method. Use it like you would any other soap or mild abrasive cleanser to clean cookware and pots. Rub the cleaner on with a sponge, then rinse or wipe the utensil.
5. Fill the pot with the solution
Place cutlery in a saucepan to clean and fill it with the solution.
If you want to clean both the outside and the inside of a pot, you can place the pot in a larger pot that is also filled with the solution. If you don’t have a pot that is big enough to fit the pot you want to clean it, you can try wiping the outside with a wedge of lemon dipped in salt instead.
6. Boil the solution in the pan
Let them simmer for ten to fifteen minutes.
7. Once the aluminium begins to lighten, turn off the stove
Let the pot and its contents cool down. Empty the water.
8. Gently scrub the pot or pan with a scrubbing brush
This process will remove any remaining discolouration.
Avoid using steel wool. Steel wool may be too harsh and make it difficult for you to clean.
9. Dry the pot with a cloth
Thoroughly dry the pot with a clean dishcloth or towel.
